Terumah – תרומה

February 5, 2022
Exodus 25:1-27:19; 1 Kings 4:32-6:13; Hebrews 8:1-13

Torah Portion “‘תרומה/Terumah” which means “Contribution/Heave Offering,” and begins, “And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying, ‘Speak to the children of Yisra’ĕl, that they take up a contribution for Me. From everyone whose heart moves him you shall take up My contribution.’ ”

This week’s Torah portion is “Terumah,” and we learn contributions and donations from it.  The people of Israel are in exile, having left Egypt but not yet in the Land, and HaShem now gives instructions for building His Tabernacle, in order that He live among His people.  Pastor Richard teaches how to be exalted, to be lifted, to rise (donation) and how it’s not about the donation, it’s about the donor and the humility in his heart.

The focus from this parasha about building the sanctuary is from Exodus 25:1-9. Ro’eh
Richard asks the question “What are we gaining by building the sanctuary (which later became the temple)?” and “How will our actions affect the coming of Messiah?” Ro’eh Richard shows how giving our Terumah is actually giving to Messiah. Ro’eh Richard also shows us Terumah through Mussar (character building). “What will we glean in
our character?” We see that the translation for Terumah is “contribution” or “donation,” but he dives deeper to show the meaning of the word and see the Messiah revealed here. An important KEY: Understanding that ALL the earth and the fullness of it belongs to the LORD (Psalm 24:1) If it all belongs to HIM how can we give HIM anything? Let’s see….

This week our Haftorah teaching is delivered by Brother Mark from 1 Kings 5:12-6:13, and the New Covenant E-drash is delivered by Ro’ah Alpha from Hebrews 8:1-13.
