Ki Tisa – כי תשא
February 19, 2022
Exodus 30:11-34:35; 1 Kings 18:1-39; 2 Corinthians 3:1-8
Torah Portion “‘כי תשא/Ki Tisa” which means “When you take [a census]” and begins, “And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying, ‘When you take the census of the children of Yisra’ĕl, to register them, then each one shall give an atonement for his life to יהוה, when you register them, so that there is no plague among them when you register them.’ ”
The Children of Israel were unable to bear the presence of Hashem when He visited them and after receiving the Ten Words (The Ten Commandments), they told Moshe to get The Torah for them. (“What He says, we will do.”) Moshe appointed Aaron and Hur and the seventy elders to rule the camp while he was away. In their impatience during Moshe’s absence, they decided he must have perished. What caused them to have Aaron build the Golden Calf so soon after receiving The Ten Commandments? Why did Aaron avoid punishment for this? What does the Golden Calf represent in our time? How can we avoid the same sin, ourselves? The answers to these questions and more in our Torah Portion this week.
This week our Haftorah teaching is delivered by Brother Mark from 1 Kings 18:1-39, and the New Covenant E-drash is delivered by Sister Alpha from 2 Corinthians 3:1-8.
The video above contains the entirety of our service day, beginning with our Blessings and Worship portions.
